What is style and how to define it?
A sense of style is a unique expression of one’s being that translates in various areas of one’s life—from the physical to the mental, to the emotional and spiritual.
Physical: Picture yourself in front of your closet, your mind is like a blank canvas and the only thing you have to do is to close your eyes and see the color you feel attracted for the day; connect to the type of clothes you want to wear—a suit, a dress, casual pant /skirt or a nice pullover, etc. From that space, select only what resonates with your eyes on that particular day.
You can follow this process with food as well, the bottom line is learning to connect to what’s best for you at that very moment, to not make your decision based on the latest trend or food fad. Your body and feelings will always guide you—tune in.
Mental: Style isn’t about following trends. It’s about connecting to your individuality.
Emotions: There’s something very personal and emotional about your unique style. Some examples of how we see this throughout history are Princess Diana with her coy look, and how she spoke her mind through her style, Nina Simone who instead chose to expresses her emotions beautifully through her singing (listen to her song Summertime she’s inimitable!). Lastly, Madonna serves as an example of someone that continues to reinvent her style.
Spiritual: Those ladies I mentioned have been in touch with the collective unconscious by tapping into a vast reservoir of knowledge, and can intuitively express their unique blueprint.
What is your unique blueprint?
It may take a lifetime to acknowledge it, but each human being inherently has the need to express their own unique style. Through art, Basquiat, and Picasso. Einstein through scientific discoveries, and Mother Theresa through her service to the world.
As the French would say “ je ne sais quoi”( that special something) that eludes most of us and yet it is relatable!
It’s your turn!
